Assisting returnees

The decision of a person to return voluntarily, be it a person withdrawing the asylum process, somebody with a negative decision or of a person with refugee status in Finland, should be the person’s own decision. The decision should be well-informed, so the person must be given sufficient information to make up his or her mind.

IOM therefore encourages partners approached by potential voluntary returnees to discuss the various options as carefully as possible. If needed, IOM can also talk to the person directly or maybe provide general information on the country of return.

If the person has already decided to return voluntarily, you may help him/her fill in the IOM application forms and forward them to IOM Helsinki or refer the person directly to IOM for further advice. Applications can be sent by mail, fax or scanned as e-mail attachments.

You are of course also free to contact IOM if you want to know more about the voluntary return assistance or IOM's other activities.

After receiving the application, IOM will register the person and process the application. IOM will inform either you or the returnee directly whether he or she is eligible to receive voluntary return and reintegration support.
