This section is based on questions that are asked from us frequently.

How soon can I travel?
Every return is processed individually and can vary just from couple of days to several weeks depending on different factors such as airline bookings and if you have a valid travel document.

Can I return back to Finland after I have left?
The project aims at sustainable returns, which means that your decision to return back to your country of origin should be voluntary and well-considered. The project does not support short term visits nor non-voluntary returns.

How can I find you at the airport?
If your social worker has given you an IOM plastic bag, please carry it also at Helsinki Airport when you come to the meeting place agreed on. This way it is easy to identify you at the airport.

If you have a personal telephone number, as for example a mobile, please inform this number to IOM so that IOM might call you if cannot find one another.

I do not want to return to my home country but to another one. Can I travel with IOM?
The project supports only returns to countries where you have permit to stay.

How much is the reintegration grant?
A reinstallation cash grant is granted only on an individual application and based on different factors, including your description of you how intend to use the money for your reingration and where you are returning to.

Is it sure that I will get the grant on arrival?
Yes. It can vary from country to country how and where the reintegration grant is paid but you will get what you are entitled to. When you get the grant, you must sign a document that proves you have received it.

Do I get any support after the arrival to my country of origin?
If you are eligible for more that 200 euro, you will receive the rest of the re-integration grant in your country of origin.

I don’t have a valid travel document and to be able to travel, this should be applied from the embassy. Do I need to deliver the originals of my ID or can I deliver copies?
Whether originals or copies are needed depends on the embassy. However, if you give the originals to IOM Helsinki, IOM will handle the application for a travel document with the embassy and give you your documents back before you travel.

I don’t have any ID at all. Can you arrange a travel for me?
